2010 Grand Slam of Darts runner-up James Wade was denied the chance to reach the last four despite putting up a fantastic fight against world number one Phil ‘The Power’ Taylor on Saturday.
Left-hander Wade pushed the 16-times World Champion hard after falling 9-2 behind but a few narrowly missed doubles stopped him from completely turning around the early deficit, eventually losing 16-12.
Taylor raced into his 9-2 lead with a run of seven consecutive legs but ‘The Machine hit back by taking eight out of the next eleven to trail 12-10.
But his opponent won the next three legs to move within a leg of victory before Wade kept his hopes alive with a brilliant bull finish to complete a 121 combination.
He almost piled further pressure on Taylor but wired double top when needing it to take out 120, allowing ‘The Power’ to pin double ten for the win.
