JAMES WADE 7 – 4 Adrian Lewis

James Wade produced an excellent performance to defeat Adrian Lewis on night three of the McCoy’s Premier League in Bournemouth.

Wade, the world number three, swept past the second ranked player comfortably, recording an average of over 100 in the process.

And ‘The Machine’, who took his points tally to four with his second success of the season, admitted that his performance came as something of a relief.

“I have been practising very hard for a while now so I’m pleased that’s shown tonight,” said Wade, who faces Phil Taylor in Exeter next week.

“I had been doing a few things wrong in terms of preparation but I’ve put them right and it’s spot on now.

“I don’t think my best darts are too far away. I’ve been hitting everything in practise so it was good to take that on to the stage.

“It felt really good and I’m believe that I can kick on from here. It’s actually the best start I’ve had for a while.”

‘The Machine’ pegged double five to take the opening leg but narrowly missed the bull for an early break, allowing Lewis to level.

Wade moved back ahead when he pinned double ten and he doubled his advantage when he threw a fabulous 13 dart leg, which included his first 180, to break his opponent’s throw.

The world number three scored his second maximum in the following leg, which he won on tops to move into a 4-1 lead.

‘Jackpot’ took out 58 to hold but another 180 from Wade helped to re-open a three leg cushion.

‘The Machine’ just missed double eleven for a 124 finish as Lewis pulled a leg back but the 2009 champion cleaned up 76 in the next leg to ensure he could not lose the match.

And he almost won it in style but wired double ten for a 140 checkout before Lewis reduced his lead to 6-4.

But Wade pinned trusty double ten to grab his second win in the first three weeks of action.
