James Wade made a strong start to his 2015 World Darts Championship bid with a deserved victory against Jamie Lewis on Sunday night.

Sixth seed Wade, a three-time semi-finalist, defeated the Welsh youngster by three sets to one at London’s Alexandra Palace to move into the second round.

‘The Machine’ took the first set 3-1, hitting two 180s in the process while Lewis’ leg came courtesy of a 141 finish.

The Welshman then levelled up by edging the second set 3-2 with the aid of a 125 checkout.

Wade produced clinical finishes of 68, 96 and 81 as he restored a one set advantage, before finishing the job in commanding fashion with a fourth set whitewash, which saw him complete a run of six consecutive legs.

The eight time major winner will be back in action on 29 December when he could meet Lakeside winner Stephen Bunting.
