JAMES WADE 8 – 9 Terry Jenkins

James Wade missed out on the chance to move into the quarter-finals of the UK Open after suffering defeat at the hands of Terry Jenkins in a last-leg decider on Saturday evening.

Wade, who has won the tournament twice before, produced a spirited fightback from 8-5 down only to see his opponent clinch the final leg.

‘The Machine’ showed flashes of his brilliance at times in the match, including two fabulous 136 finishes.

Jenkins won the first two legs but Wade broke his throw in the third before producing his first 136 checkout to level up proceedings.

The next two legs were shared with Wade taking out 101 to make it three legs apiece.

Jenkins edged back in front though and moved two legs clear when he pegged double 15 after Wade had wired two darts at double top.

‘The Machine’ then fired in his first maximum before taking out a fantastic 136 checkout for the second time in the match.

That earned Wade a break of throw but he then missed a couple of darts at doubles, allowing Jenkins to break straight back and take a 6-4 lead.

He increased that to 7-4 by bedding tops but Wade took out 96 to reduce the deficit.

‘The Bull’ held to move within a leg of the quarter-finals, leaving Wade in need of four straight legs to survive.

He pegged double ten to keep his hopes alive before firing in his second 180 to put pressure on Jenkins’ throw.

‘The Machine’ clinically cleaned up 81 to take that leg and then pinned double six to force a deciding leg, which Jenkins won on double ten.
