JAMES WADE 4 – 0 Vincent van der Voort
James Wade won through to the quarter-finals of the Ladbrokes World Championship with a straight sets victory over Vincent van der Voort at London’s Alexandra Palace on Thursday.
The world number three punished van der Voort for several missed darts at doubles as he claimed a 4-0 victory to set up a last eight clash with Wez Newton.
“I didn’t play well but I won four nil ,” said Wade, the seven-time major winner.
“That has to be a good thing because I know I can do so much better.
“It’s going to be a good game against Wez. I’m going to have up my scoring and keep finishing well.
“I’ve worked hard and practised hard for this and that’s got to show sooner or later.
“If it comes out in this tournament then someone could be in for a good hiding but if I don’t play good darts against Wez then I could be on the end of one.
“At the end of the day I’ve done the job again and that’s what I’m here to do.”
Wade won three straight legs to take the first set, hitting his first 180 in the process.
He then pegged double 16 to win the first leg of set two against the throw, before van der Voort hit back with a brilliant eleven darter, which included two maximums.
The Dutchman took out 48 to hold but ‘The Machine’ won the next two legs to double his lead in the match.
van der Voort hit a 108 finish to break in the opening leg of the third set before his third 180 helped him double his lead.
Wade came back again though, as he reeled off three straight legs to open up a three sets to nil lead.
A fourth maximum from van der Voort helped him move ahead in what proved to be the final set as ‘The Machine’ fought back once again, winning three consecutive legs to seal the win.
Wade faces Newton on Saturday evening.
