James Wade missed out on a place in the Grand Slam of Darts quarter-finals after narrowly losing an exciting clash with Stephen Bunting on Thursday in Wolverhampton.

Four ton-plus finishes, including a 170 and a 164, were not enough for Wade to stop the reigning Lakeside Champion claiming a 10-8 victory in their last 16 tie.

Bunting, who also produced four checkouts of over 100, started brightly and led 5-2 and 7-4 but ‘The Machine’ hit back, reducing the deficit to 8-7.

‘The Bullet’ fired in a 114 finish to move within a leg of victory before Wade’s 164 kept his hopes alive – but they were finally dashed when his opponent closed out the match with a 12-darter.
